Rottnest Conservation Foundation, Inc

Conserving Rottnest

Welcome

Vincent WayThe Rottnest Conservation Foundation was incorporated under the Association Incorporation Act on 18 April 1995.

It is led by a Board of 10 members who meet regularly to consider priority projects for the conservation of Rottnest’s delicate eco system and preservation of its unique heritage buildings. The Foundation is served voluntarily on a not for profit basis and is apolitical.

Our purpose is to retain and enhance Rottnest Island’s essence for present and future generations through funding for environmental, cultural and heritage projects i.e. To Conserve Rottnest!

RottnestRottnest is a very special place in the hearts and minds of most Western Australians. It is one of the most important and favoured holiday destinations in the State. Rottnest’s fragile environment is constantly subjected to the ravages of the salt, sea air, wind and waves ranging from the summer pattern of morning easterly winds and fresh afternoon sea breezes to the intensity of the north westerly winter storms.

Together with the forces of nature, the impact of heavy visitation from holiday makers and day trippers, Rottnest requires constant attention and intervention for the conservation of the island.

OspreyIt is often quoted that Rottnest Island is a Western Australian Government responsibility. Indeed the island infrastructure and management via the Rottnest Island Authority is very much dependent on Government appropriation and subject to annual budgetary discretion. However the Rottnest Island Authority is not empowered to pursue additional funding from other sources for much needed projects if the budget allocation is insufficient for such purposes.

RockRottnest Conservation Foundation focuses on pursuing such additional funding requirements from external agencies offering grant funding and from direct fund raising initiatives.

Rottnest Conservation Foundation Inc is registered with the Department of Environment and Heritage and donations to the Rottnest Conservation Foundation Inc are eligible for income tax deductions.
