Our Projects
The Rottnest Conservation Foundation has contributed towards many conservation projects on the Island.
Past projects include:
- Reafforestation project, including a 100 hectare fencing program to propagate and plant hundreds of thousands of indigenous trees on the Island's denuded areas.
- Contributed towards the cost of the boardwalk in front of the Thomson Bay Tearooms.
- Funded the restoration and refurbishment of a building at the Kingstown Barracks for the establishment of a ‘Discovery Centre’. The Centre is used as an education facility to raise awareness of Rottnest's unique environment to visitors and school children.
- Refurbishment of the World War II Battery Observation Post at Signal Ridge on Wadjemup Hill through a successful LotteryWest grant.
- Funding by gifts for Memorial Park Benches around Thomson Bay.
Projects currently being supported include:
- Rottnest Island Coastal Walk Trail:
Currently our most ambitious project is to contribute towards the construction of a Coastal Walk Trail around Rottnest Island. To date the Foundation has donated close to $50,000 from its own fundraising activities and a LotteryWest Grant.
Potential projects:
- The Foundation is currently investigating opportunities to contribute towards the repair and interpretation of the Aboriginal Burial Ground.
- The Foundation is also interested in supporting the re-establishment of the Rottnest Nursery for the propagation of indigenous plants for reafforestation programs.
If you would like to contribute to any of these projects, you can either make a donation or become a 'Friend of Rottnest'.
